Frequently asked questions about enamel
We have gathered the questions Emayeci hears most often.
What is enamel?
Enamel is a glass-like coating fused onto a metal surface at high temperature. It brings together the best qualities of porcelain, glass and steel.
Is enamel safe to cook and eat from?
Yes. Its glass-like, non-porous surface is made from natural raw materials and contains no toxic substances, making it one of the healthiest coatings available.
Are zinc and enamel the same thing?
No. Zinc is a metal, while enamel is the name of the coating applied on top of metal. On our products, enamel is applied to 7512-grade steel sheet.
Can enamelware go in the oven?
Yes. Enamel withstands high temperatures and can safely be used for baking and reheating in the oven.
Can I use it in the microwave?
No. Because there is steel beneath the enamel, it must not be used in a microwave.
Does enamel work on induction hobs?
Yes. The steel body is magnetic, so enamel products are compatible with induction hobs.
Is it dishwasher safe?
It can be washed on a gentle dishwasher cycle. To keep the shine for many years, we recommend washing by hand.
Can enamel be repaired?
Because of its glass-like structure, chipped or cracked enamel cannot be repaired. If the inner surface that touches food is damaged, we recommend not using the piece for cooking.
How do I clean discoloured or stained enamel?
Use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar, or warm water with a little vinegar, and a soft cloth. Avoid wire brushes and abrasive cleaners.
Do you accept international orders?
International orders are accepted on request. The carrier and delivery time are confirmed before the order. See our International Orders page or write to us for details.
Can I order wholesale or custom-logo products?
Yes. We apply colours, logos and designs to mugs, plates and other products. Find out more on our Wholesale Enamel Products page.
